As an equine surgery technician, you will assist equine surgeons with a variety of surgeries at the hospital, including colic surgery, arthroscopy, fracture repair, and standing surgeries, including laparoscopy. Additional responsibilities include maintaining surgical equipment, tools, and packs. You will assist in the care of hospitalized patients including performing physical exams, preparing and administering medications, passing nasogastric tubes, placing catheters, administering fluids, and assisting with diagnostic procedures including nuclear scintigraphy. Maintaining detailed records of treatments and observations, and promptly reporting any abnormalities to the veterinarian, will be a crucial part of your duties. Experience with anesthesia and surgery is highly beneficial. You will also contribute to the general care and cleanliness of equine patients and their environment.
In this role, you will also assist the surgeon on farm calls, which may involve jogging horses for lameness exams, setting up and operating equipment such as ultrasound, digital radiographs, shockwave, Prostride, and Equinosis Lameness Locator, as well as keeping accurate records and invoices and driving.

This position requires excellent customer service, computer skills, and a strong foundation in equine medical knowledge. Proficiency in horse handling is essential for success. The candidate must be able to lift 50 lb. A current Veterinary Technician Licensure or active enrollment in an accredited veterinary technician program is required. Experience in surgery is a plus.
Flexible scheduling is available. The candidate will be expected to participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
