Our knowledgeable team is experienced in providing industry-leading petfood evaluation for dogs and cats. Our study directors and veterinary team work together to maximize successful design and implementation of client requested studies for agencies such as AAFCO, VOHC, and FDA-CVM, as well as for general company evaluation of products. We are currently seeking two full time staff veterinarians to add to our veterinary care team.
The staff veterinarians report to the Senior Research Veterinarian/Attending Veterinarian and participate in promoting day-to-day well-being and provision of clinical care for all animals housed at SRF in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act. This includes monitoring animals’ health, comfort, and welfare on a daily basis during all stages of life (neonatal to geriatric).
Staff veterinarian responsibilities of animal care will include:
Providing general clinical and surgical care for animal health while utilizing on-site equipment such as dental and table x-ray, ultrasound, ultrasonic and highspeed dental units, Vet-Tome, and electrocautery unit.
Efficacy using anesthesia protocols, management of pre- and post-op care and general surgical skills.
Interacting with and supervising veterinary technicians to provide guidance on animal care needs.
Performing research facility specific tasks such as yearly physical examinations on all dogs as required by USDA, veterinary rounds and necropsies.
Managing animal colony healthcare including vaccination, dental health, and parasitic control.
Monitoring drug inventory, recording controlled drug usage and ordering supplies.
Part of each day will consist of activities related to study development and implementation including:
Participating in IACUC activities such as study approval, standard operating procedure review, and facility inspections.
Interacting with study clientele and developing protocols based on those interactions.
Participating in study specific activities such as performing physical examinations on animals as required by study protocol, processing, and shipping of laboratory specimens, assessing sample analysis results, and writing and interpretating data as it pertains to studies.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
DVM/VMD degree from a US veterinary medical college or equivalent degree with US equivalency examination
Veterinary license in the state of Pennsylvania
Ability to obtain a DEA license
Minimum of 1 year experience in private practice or equivalent.
Preferred Skills
USDA accreditation
Proficient in Microsoft Office core applications with good written and oral communication skills
Ultrasound and x-ray technique (standard as well as dental) skills
Excellent organizational skills
Personnel management skills
Physical Requirements:
Individuals will be working in both animal areas and office settings
Physical requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment: The persons filling the positions will spend approximately 35% in an office setting and 65% in the animal areas/laboratory. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There will be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
Additional Skills:
Providing emergency care afterhours, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis
Ability to work effectively under time constraints.
