Cornell University Veterinary Specialists (CUVS) is seeking a Hospital Director/Hospital Administrator.
The Hospital Director (HD) is a mission-critical senior leadership position. Reporting directly to the President, the HD is responsible for the overall operational, administrative and non-medical management of the hospital and is actively involved in overall strategy, providing consultation to the President and guidance to other Directors. The HD has responsibility for the fiscal performance of the hospital, supervises and mentors managers and, together with the President and Chief Medical Officer, owns the maintenance of a positive, engaged and high performing culture.
The HD works collaboratively and supportively within CUVS Leadership, including the veterinarians, to support the primary goal of outstanding medical care. The HD is expected to model an “owner” mentality by being present and accessible, by demonstrating a willingness to assist all employees in making the hospital a success, and by investing the necessary time and effort to accomplish his/her duties, ensure smooth and effective hospital operations, and ensure that CUVS delivers on its missions. It is the goal that this position evolves into the Chief Operating Officer position, with reporting relationships with the Board of Directors and College leadership.

Key Responsibilities Include:
Financial Management: oversee the hospital’s financial performance and collaborate to provide financial strategic direction.
Operational/Administrative: lead non-clinical administrative functions including client services, medical records, finance and billing, human resources, IT and purchasing.
Client Services: oversee client service leadership and operations, promote a high service culture, resolve escalated issues.
Facilities/IT: oversee facility and IT infrastructure; oversee renovations/high level projects.
HR: oversee HR leadership and operations, including recruiting, compensation, benefits and performance management.
Strategic Leadership: participate in strategy development and execution.
Supervision: supervise and lead operational leadership team (directors and managers).
Select Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in relevant field required. Degree in Veterinary Practice Management preferred. Master's degree in business or hospital administration preferred.
At least five years' experience in a hospital administration or similar position in a veterinary specialty hospital(s).
Knowledge of the higher financial aspects of a veterinary specialty hospital/clinic, including business structure, financial indicators and benchmarks.
Knowledge of, and experience with, electronic medical record systems, spreadsheets and financial systems.
Experience in assessing operations and efficiencies and influencing them to drive higher performance and revenues.
Demonstrated strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate a team to deliver outstanding results, manage performance and deliver constructive feedback.
