Located on the beautiful island of St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, the Humane Society of St Thomas is seeking an enthusiastic veterinarian to oversee the medical care of our shelter animals and to develop and expand our spay/neuter clinic. Primary responsibilities include veterinary care for shelter animals and patients of our public spay/neuter clinic, development, and implementation of preventive health protocols in line with sheltering best practices, management and training of veterinary team members, and being an active member of our leadership team.
Job Summary:
Works closely with the shelter medical team which consists of veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and other staff. Works closely with private practice clinics when necessary.
Confident surgical skills for high volume spay/neuter; TNVR program; other surgical procedures (enucleations, lumpectomies, amputations. Experience with orthopedics is a plus.);
Overseeing medical care for shelter animals, community outreach, foster and adoption programs, endorsing health certificates for transport.
Reviews and updates high standard shelter protocols for preventative medicine and regional health threats.
Oversees pricing and choice of clinic medications, products, and services.
Oversees shelter and clinic is fully equipped to provide quality medicine (vaccines, tests, nutraceuticals, surgical supplies, etc.);
The Humane Society of St Thomas is an open-intake private shelter with municipal contracts. HSSTT provides care for an estimated 1,600 animals each year and is in the process of developing a high-volume spay/neuter clinic. The HSSTT may occasionally require weekend, evening, or holiday hours depending on circumstances.
PAY RANGE AND COMPENSATION PACKAGE
The pay range for this position is $100,000 to $150,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. The compensation package includes the following benefits:

Since 1957, the Humane Society of St. Thomas has been sheltering abandoned animals, fighting cruelty, animal neglect and working to create an environment of respect, responsibility, and compassion for all animals throughout the territory. Our functional campus sits on 4.7 acres and consists of five major buildings. We are open admission shelter, meaning that our doors are always open for any animal that we can legally accept. The Humane Society of St. Thomas is 501c3 non-profit organization. We are the only animal shelter serving with residents of St.Thomas, and other than a small contract with the government of the Virgin Islands we are dependent entirely upon donations and the good will of the community.
