About El Paso Animal Services (EPAS): El Paso Animal Services is an open-admission shelter, caring for roughly 15,000 animals annually. Since our shelter reform plan was passed in 2016, the department and the community have increased the live-release rate to 80%. EPAS has developed a progressive and innovative approach to serve the pets in our region, focused on keeping pets and families together.

Education and Experience: A Doctor of veterinary medicine degree and two (2) years professional veterinary experience, including veterinary internship or residency, in shelter or companion animal medicine and surgery, or in zoo, wild animal medicine and surgery or completion of residency in zoological medicine.
Licenses and Certificates: Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Texas by the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners prior to appointment or licensed in another state. If licensed in another state, must obtain Texas License within 30 days of appointment.
Federal Controlled Substances Registration, and USDA Accreditation for some positions within 45 days of appointment.
Texas Class "C" Driver License or equivalent from another state.
