This position serves as the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) Associate Coordinator with focus for the National Bio-Agro Defense Facility (NBAF) assisting in the development, implementation, monitoring, and communication of national level policies, programs, and regulations concerning all laboratory issues related to the NAHLN.
Duties
The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity. The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Provides professional level support to leadership regarding the coordination and implementation of cooperative agreements.
Supports and advises on the selection, modification, harmonization and application of diagnostic techniques and strategies for transboundary diseases and other emerging diseases.
Provides authoritative scientific leadership in assuring that laboratory procedures meet or exceed international standards.
Determines the need for contracted supplies and materials; evaluates appropriate product specifications; and works with contracting officers to ensure that products are available for program use.
Serves as a nationally recognized technical expert to industry and government at various levels in overall laboratory network processes and methodologies.
Serves as advanced subject matter expert in meetings at the international, national, regional, and area level concerning significant or controversial issues related to diagnostic testing.
Develops, coordinates, and leads workshops and other informational meetings pertaining to veterinary diagnostics, disease preparedness and outbreak response.
Collaborates and consults with various staff to analyze problems, recommend technology-based solutions, and develop strategies for diagnostic assays for animal health.
