Daytime ER clinicians/hospitalists work 3-4 shifts per week and have 24/7 support by 3 Criticalists and the rest of the specialty team. Our schedule provides overlap to ensure you leave at the end of your shift – not hours later. Your personal time is important to us, and we want you to work hard while with us, but enjoy your time off to rest, explore hobbies or attend social engagements. Daytime ER clinicians/hospitalists help see referral patients as well as walk-in cases with emergent and urgent needs, perform diagnostic work-ups which include facilitating ultrasounds with our radiologist, and care for non-critical hospitalized patients. On average, we see 10 cases per shift and have 3 non-emergent patients hospitalized.
Culture is a priority, and we pride ourselves on our collaborative, team-based approach to patient care, willingness to always improve and explore new ideas, and emphasis on your wellbeing and a healthy work-life balance. We work hard to maintain our positive culture, including implementing a social worker to help with internal communications, wellness assessments and be available to talk us through our challenging moments.
The VMC is also very active with local cruelty cases. We work closely with the Syracuse Police Department and many organizations to help identify , treat and rehome animals who have experienced cruelty and neglect.
Each morning begins with cage-side hospital rounds where all doctors meet to discuss the hospitalized cases. Not only does this facilitate transfers to specialty services, but also fosters collaboration on patients that require multiple specialists as well as opportunities for ongoing learning.
