Animal Care Sanctuary is seeking a veterinarian that is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the medical and surgical care of shelter and community pet companions. Commitment to animal welfare and a compelling need to make a difference in the lives of the animals we serve and the humans we encounter is essential.
The Director will mentor the veterinarian team including veterinarians at the community clinics, the licensed vet techs, vet assistants, clinic support staff and sanctuary caregivers, oversee the medical standards and operations of the clinic, educate and strive to ensure the delivery of the highest quality medical, surgical treatment and preventative care to our companion animals.
The position will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will assume leadership role that assists program development and works closely with the leadership team to make critical decisions that affect our animals. The ability to actively build professional relationships with key outside organizations, Animal Care Sanctuary Board of Directors and the community at large is essential.
Manage all veterinary medical care related to sanctuary animals, implementing practices and protocols related to shelter medicine.
Responsible for the medical health and well-being of sheltered animals, including but not limited to sterilization, quarantine issues, and ethics of shelter medical practice.
Conduct rounds with department heads to observe, diagnose and establish treatment plans.
Diagnose and treat shelter animal problems, perform spay/neuter surgeries and other needed procedures on shelter animals, provide information and counsel to staff and pet owners regarding the health status of animals, coaching and supporting animal health staff and ensure Animal Care Sanctuary adheres to the principles of sheltering as outlines in the Association of Shelter Veterinarian's Guidelines for Standard of Care in Animal Shelters.
Oversees, professionally develop and evaluate veterinarians, and ancillary vet staff.
Attends Professional Advisory Committee Meetings quarterly.
Attend Ethics meetings when requested, attend all leadership meetings.
Responsible for in-servicing caregivers on infection control, infectious diseases, proper protocols for optimal health care, and numerous other topics to increase our staff skills and knowledge.

About Animal Care Sanctuary
Animal Care Sanctuary(ACS) is a 53 year old no kill shelter in NE PA, 45 minutes from Cornell. ACS cares for 250-350 dogs and cats daily and operates 2 community clinics for wellness and spay/neuter. ACS has two locations, one in Bradford County with 130 acres and one in Tioga County for 64 acres. ACS has a pre-vet program that provides housing to interns for a semester to work in the clinics, with our own animals, as well as learn about canine and cat care and non profit governance. We are looking for a Director of Veterinary Services and presently have three veterinarians. We will be opening a new clinic in May that is presently under construction.
