Practice Administrator - Tufts Veterinary Field Service-19002020 Description
Within the Department of Environmental and Population Health (DEPH), the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University operates a busy, ten veterinarian large animal practice in Woodstock, CT. Tufts Veterinary Field Service (TVFS), delivers vital specialty and primary care around the clock service for a variety of food and fiber animals and horses in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. TVFS provides quality veterinary service to clients, superior education to students, support for agriculture in the community, and professional growth for its faculty and staff. On an annual basis, our veterinarians make approximately 4,000 farm calls, tending to over 35,000 cows, 2,000 horses, 700 sheep, 700 goats, and 800 llamas or alpacas.
Manage the administrative, business and service functions of a busy, multi-doctor, multi-species ambulatory veterinary practice for optimum quality service delivery and efficiency. Responsibilities include: the development and supervision of office and technical support staff; management of scheduling for routine and emergency appointments; management of client relations. Directly responsible for the improvement and effective execution of business and financial operations, including client billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and inventory. As a member of senior leadership team, some shared responsibility for strategic planning and budgeting is expected.
The following required knowledge and skills as typically acquired by completing a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Three or more years of accounting, budget management, credit and collections experience in a client-centered, fast-paced small business environment. Ability and enthusiasm to learn new business management skills and software, including proprietary practice management (Impromed) and enterprise (People Soft) systems. Positive, professional and service-oriented attitude. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Proficient using MS Excel, Word and scheduling software. Prior successful supervisory experience. Ability to lift to 25 lbs. with or without accommodation.
Veterinary medical practice, research and/or farm management experience preferred
Animal experience as an owner or in a business capacity with one or more of the species in the practice preferred
Strong analytical ability to review, produce, and manage accurate financial reports and analyses
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with business management software
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and to multi-task
Pleasant, professional and service-oriented attitude in a fast-paced environmen
