Veterinarian in Blue Ridge Mountains VA/NC (Mixed, Small, Eq)
Blue Ridge Veterinary Services
DVM in Heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains Create your perfect Associate veterinary position with us. Veterinary medicine where you are seen as a part of your patient's family, not an extension of the internet or a corporation. We are a mixed animal practice, but can make room for a small, large or primarily equine practitioner. Our 2 practices are located 30 miles apart; one in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia (Galax, VA) and the other in the foothills of North Carolina (Mount Airy, NC). This is the kind of area where, while we require a monetary payment, it is not uncommon for us to get fresh eggs and garden veggies as a "tip". Our practice philosophy is based on the family and community focus of our practice. Our Galax office opened in 1966 and was originally used as the area's first animal shelter. Some of our clients are the grandchildren of our initial clientele. We have a diverse patient and client base and no day is ever the same. Our values may be traditional, but how we practice is “cutting-edge”. We are a 5-doctor practice with approximately 22 support staff including 4 licensed veterinary technicians. LVTs utilized for surgical inductions/monitoring and assist with advanced procedures such as IV and urinary catheterizations, contrast studies, wound care, etc. Doctors are accompanied by assistants in the exam rooms and farm calls whenever possible to restrain, to provide additional client education and input exam findings. We utilize electronic medical records via Avimark software. Both practices have been renovated in the last 10 years. Workload consists of: medical and surgical care of small animal patients (approximately 65%) with onsite Idexx lab, DR radiography, ultrasound, tonometry, advanced surgical capability (orthopedics, cruciate repair, etc.), Iso and Sevoflurane anesthesia, complete surgical monitoring, electrocautery, cold Laser therapy; Basic care of Exotics (5%) including rabbit/small mammal, pet pigs, reptile care and wildlife rehabilitation (multiple licensed rehabbers on staff); on-farm Equine (20%) with portable radiography and ultrasound, power equine dentistry; and Food Animal (10%) consisting of beef cattle, small ruminants and a few swine. We are open to non-traditional therapeutics and have had acupuncture services previously. Ideally, we are looking for a mixed animal practitioner, but our workload would allow for specialization. Due to our large animal case load, we do offer emergency services. However, we are willing to negotiate on emergency call as we do have ER clinics within driving distance that we utilize. We encourage our veterinarians to explore medical interests and support the development of new areas of practice. We do have both a specialty clinic and the VA-MD Regional College of Vet Med within reasonable driving distance to refer particularly complicated cases. We have regular doctor meetings to discuss patient care, policies and new initiatives with all opinions respected. We are VA-MD, NCSU, Western, Guelph and Ross alumni. Outdoor activities abound as we are located near the New River, Blue Ridge Parkway and several VA and NC state parks. Our Galax office is located at the start of the 57-mile New River Trail. Mount Airy is the basis for "Mayberry" in the Andy Griffith show. You can still get a a haircut at Floyd's barber shop or take a ride in the replica of Andy's squad car. Schools are excellent along with art galleries, museums, theaters and other cultural opportunities. Salary commensurate with experience. Other benefits include licensing fees, AVMA and other association dues, PTO and CE, health/dental, matching 401K, profit sharing and buy-in potential. Generous signing bonus / moving expense coverage!
