Are you a DVM looking for a new opportunity and challenge? IDEXX is recruiting for a Diagnostic Support Veterinarian to join our Medical Consulting Team. The general practitioner veterinarian in this position provides phone consultations and diagnostic support to clients regarding Reference Laboratory and In-House Diagnostics (IHD) results, with emphasis around understanding the relationship between various test methodologies offered by IDEXX. A high level of importance is placed on quality, service, and timeliness.
This is a salaried, 40 hour/week position (Monday-Friday, with rotating Saturdays). The ideal candidate will be able to work during the below time-frames. Exact hours to be determined (your time zone is considered and flexibility is preferred).
Monday – Friday: 8 am – 9 pm EST service hours (8 hr shift + 30 or 60 min unpaid lunch break)
Saturday: 9 am – 4 pm EST service hours (8:30 am – 5 pm EST shift + 30 min lunch; 1 – 2 Sat / month with rotation day off)
All appointments, CE conferences, vacations must be approved by supervisor or logistics manager prior to scheduling.
Technical & Consultative Responsibilities
Responsible for knowing proper specimen handling techniques for laboratory specimens for lab processing and interferences in the sample that may affect the test results.
Responsible for knowing tests offered by the Reference Laboratories, VetLab & Rapid Assay; specimen requirements for each of these tests; clinical utility of each test; and how to interpret results, especially IDEXX exclusive tests (i.e., Lyme Quant C6 & Spec cPL/fPL
Responsible for understanding technology behind IHD tests offered by IDEXX (i.e., SNAP tests & VetLab products)
Responsible for communicating with Reference Lab and IHD customers regarding questions, concerns or discrepancies associated with reference lab or IHD results.
Attends regular Submit Questionable Sample (SQS) meetings for IHD results and communicate follow-up with clients when appropriate.
Provides support as needed (i.e. by providing training or attending regular meetings) to other CAG customer support, sales, and technical support groups within IDEXX.
Participates in IDEXX educational or organizational meetings as they arise.
Enters all information regarding consultations into the Customer Relationship Management System software.
Complete a monthly activity log which includes days worked and hours involved in various areas of responsibility.
You will be required to attend on-site training in Westbrook, Maine for your first 4 weeks of employment (travel, lodging and food will be covered by IDEXX)
May be required to spend some time at a Reference Laboratory to become familiar with many aspects of a commercial laboratory, including procedures for running IDEXX exclusive tests.
May be required to spend some time observing SQS processes in R&D to better understand the technical aspects behind IHD products.
Willing to travel one weekend every year or two to attend an Internal Medicine Service training weekend.
Other duties as assigned and may include:
Engaging in the development of test information guides and training material for other IDEXX staff or customers.
Preparing or reviewing newsletter articles and diagnostic or service updates for IDEXX customers.
Participating in sales calls and other client visits dependent on workload and staffing availability.
DVM or equivalent required.
Typically 5+ years experience in clinical practice.
Previous experience & knowledge of IDEXX products and services preferred.

Hearing acuity sufficient to effectively communicate via telephone and in person.
Weekend hours may be required.
Some travel will be required.
