The SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare is seeking an Associate Veterinarian for our animal shelter and full service public veterinary care center. The SPCA Albrecht Center is a non-profit, limited admissions, modern facility that includes a high volume spay and neuter surgical suite and exam rooms. We are a Humane Alliance Model Clinic, as well as an Adoption, Education, and Training Center. We adopt 800-900 animals/yr.
Candidates should be familiar with the theory and practice of shelter medicine and HQHVSN(High Quality, High Volume Spay Neuter). Good communication skills are a must.
The ideal DVM/VMD candidate would have 1 yr of experience with HQHVSN, Possess an active SC License, SCDHEC, and DEA registration or ability to obtain one. However, new grads who are shelter oriented , also enjoy general practice, and are avid learners who are seeking an employer who will invest in their training will be considered.
Candidates should be comfortable communicating with clients, overseeing daily operations of clinic team along with another veterinarian, and addressing the needs of all shelter pets.

We are located in the beautiful, historical town of Aiken, SC where the living is affordable, Aiken is a progressive, animal loving, equine, golf, tennis, and cultural area with performing art centers, colleges and some of the finest amenities in the south.
Must be a dedicated shelter medicine veterinarian
Actively promote the vision and mission of the SPCA Albrecht Center to provide for the welfare of all companion animals
Must represent the SPCA in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
Must be even tempered, thoughtful, organized, motivated, positive thinking, and patient.
Provide high quality care and services to all clients.
Physically examine all surgical patients to ensure their surgical candidacy, examine surgical patients peri and post operative to ensure anesthetic safety and recovery, examine all shelter pets on an as needed basis.
Examine, diagnose, and treat shelter pets as needed.
Ensure safety and efficiency in the clinic.
Familiarity with AVImark software and paperless recording is a plus.
Implement and supervise programs for disease control throughout facility.
Oversee handling and recording of controlled substances by shelter and clinic team.
Mentor 4th year veterinary students enrolled in our externship program.
Able to learn and implement new S/N techniques, skills, information, etc. as they become available. Promote continuing development of medical care through continued education. Keep abreast of veterinary concerns and trends in animal welfare.
Participate in special projects, events, comment/write articles, lead educational opportunities for staff, volunteers, public, etc.
Available to CEO, clinic and shelter manager by phone (after hours) for emergency situations pertaining to shelter or surgical pets.
Attend/Lead administration and team meetings.
Humane Alliance trained or willing to attend training
Other duties as assigned.
Additional Salary Information: Posted salary is starting salary.Starting salary depends on level of experience.Generous compensation for additional training. Employer will pay most licenses.
