The Lead Veterinary Technician is a supervisory role in the hospital, works in partnership with the Practice Manager (PM), Medical Director and Front Desk Supervisor to ensure an excellent experience for our clients and their pets. The LVT assists in managing activities that fall under the duties of the veterinary technicians and the technical assistants. Experience is necessary as well as Virginia Licensure.
Key responsibilities include:
Ensuring the delivery of excellent nursing care for all hospital patients. Participating with the PM in the delivery of critical feedback to technical personnel and participating in reviews of said personnel.
Assisting the PM to hire and manage technical staff.
Assisting the PM to establish and oversee training protocols for new staff.
Assisting the PM in assigning and following up on the atdove.org required training plans.
Scheduling technical staff personnel in an efficient manner consistent with budgetary goals.
Managing, in partnership with the Front Desk Supervisor and the appointed technician, the controlled drug inventory and monthly reporting.
Organizing and managing regular team meetings and in-hours continuing education.
Assisting the PM on occasion to address complaints concerning technical staff.
Practicing and promoting efficient and effective communication between clients, doctors, reception staff, and technical staff.
Maintaining positive work relationships (team approach) between technical staff, clinicians, and front desk.
Promoting compliance with OSHA, DEA, and FDA requirements.
Assisting the PM to develop nursing policies and protocols.
Overseeing AAHA accreditation.
Develop and ensure the hospital protocols and procedures surrounding the specialty surgical department are being followed.
Must be flexible to work a combination of days, evenings, and weekend shifts.
Must be proficient in Dental Prophylaxis (including extractions and nerve blocks) and Digital Dental X-rays.

In addition, the Lead Veterinary Technician will work scheduled shifts during which he/she will be responsible for providing primary technical support to veterinarians.
Must be licensed in the state of Virginia or eligible to obtain said license quickly.
