Metropolitan Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Service in Louisville, KY is seeking a motivated, seasoned grad of an accredited veterinary school. Ideally we would like candidates to have completed a one year rotating internship or have >3 years of clinical experience. We are looking for an emergency clinician to work opposite 2 other colleagues in primarily overnight rotation with some swing shifts.
Our hospital consists of two parts -- Metropolitan Veterinary Specialists (MVS) and Metropolitan Veterinary Emergency Service (MVES). MVS is a multidisciplinary referral practice consisting of four surgeons, two internists, one neurologist, one dentist, and an ophthalmologist. We work intimately with them to seamlessly co-manage cases and provide excellent care. MVES is overseen by one double boarded internist/criticalist, one board certified criticalitst, and one board eligible criticalist but also consists of 5 emergency clinicians with varying internship and residency experience that provide 24/7 coverage. Four board certified surgeons share duties covering the emergency service and are available for consultation or to perform procedures at any time. We currently have cage side rounds to discuss patient care three times per day and grand rounds for interns weekly (M&M, journal club, staff presentations). The MVES is directly supported by a medical director, office manager, and seasoned veterinary staff.

Services provided by Metropolitan Veterinary Emergency Service include but are not limited to the following: routine hematology, routine clinical chemistry, blood gas analysis, PT/aPTT, thromboelestography, invasive and noninvasive blood pressure evaluation, EKG, in house telemetry, oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation, radiography, ultrasonography and computed tomography, fluid therapy and supportive care

Metropolitan Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Service is a 24 hour multidisciplinary specialty practice consisting of surgery,internal medicine, ophthalmology, dermatology and emergency/critical care services. The Emergency Critical Care Service is entering its seventh year. Presently staffed by five emergency clinicians, including one board eligible criticalist, two ACVECC diplomates. The city is a nice mixuture of quiet neighborhoods, vibrant riverfront, growing music/public radio scene and culinary/performing arts all set at a Midwest pace. The city will at least one to two times a year take on a very festive and cosmopolitan feel during the two week Kentucky Derby festival.
