| Surgical/Anesthesia Technician works in collaboration with the veterinary surgeons and other technicians to deliver anesthesia for medical and surgical procedures. They may handle the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. They will have an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the veterinary surgeon. Will have the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. |
They will provide care for a patient before, during and after a medical procedure or surgery by performing a patient assessment, preparing the patient for anesthesia and surgery, ensure proper sedation and pain management, overseeing patient recovery and caring for the patient's immediate post-operative needs.
*Calculate medication doses, including oral, injectable, and CRI
*Administer oral, injectable, and CRI medications, including knowledge of drug compatibility.
*Perform anesthesia including calculations, monitoring, and recovery
*Prepare the OR, including the sterile field, setting up surgical equipment, supplies and solutions
*Pass instruments, fluids and supplies to the surgeon and prepare and manage surgical equipment during surgery
*Perform a count of sponges and supplies
*Under the supervision of the surgeon, ensures the OR environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and operative procedure is carried out under conditions that optimize patient safety
*Update patient progress to relevant parties
*Complete medical records in hospital management software
*Review discharge instructions with client
