SoBran is seeking a Trainer in Boston, Massachusetts to serve at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
OVERVIEW: Responsibilities of this position are that of a Trainer for an Animal Care Project. We expect the Trainer to be forward thinking, creative, and assist in developing plans to enhance the learning abilities and performance of the staff working on this contract. The Trainer must possess strong verbal communication and teaching skills. The Trainer will assist management in the efficient allocation of the budget, write and maintain reports and develop and maintain an effective relationship with the client. This person is expected to be familiar with the day-to-day activities, personnel and issues within the facilities.
Essential Duties of the Trainer:
Develops training plan and curriculum for the onsite personnel and animal users (researchers).
Conducts orientation and ongoing training in classroom and hands-on formats for husbandry, technical, and researcher personnel
Assists with SOP revisions
Performs and assists with employee assessment to verify proficiency and work outcomes
Manages employee-training files, provides training updates, and skills assessments to management
Ensures that staff assigned to each position is trained and proficient in such a way that the work is accomplished in accordance with SOPs, policies and guidelines associated with the expectations of their position
Serves as a subject matter expert in all areas of the facilities
Understands and follows all SOPs and Quality Assurance Standards
Conducts weekly training sessions for each facility including the animal care and support staff. Training is to consist of hands on demonstrations, instructional classroom or a combination of these.
Provides new hire orientation and AALAS certification training
Works with the project management staff to identify and prioritize topics for staff training
Develops, review, conduct, and report on laboratory animal skill training as well as maintains training reports in accordance with SOPs and applicable guidelines and regulations
Assists in monthly safety training sessions for all staff and monthly management training and supervisors
Assures that each staff member is trained/proficient in the current SOPs required for their position
Provides necessary re-training and cross training where and when needed
Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned
Weekend work is required as scheduled. In addition, extra work hours are required during an emergency situation if any unexpected situations arise until work is completed.
Education Required: Must have a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent. Must have AALAS certification at the LATG level.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in laboratory animal science, supervisory experience preferred.
Must have working knowledge of all activities of an animal facility
Must have experience with non-human primates, biohazards, and barrier techniques
Must have computer proficiency to ensure adaptability to new and facility specific software programs
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Must conduct all work per client standards
