Associate or Full Professor of Small Animal Surgery
Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a faculty position in Small Animal Surgery. This appointment can be tenure-track or non-tenure-track, depending on the goals of the applicant. This is a full-time position. The successful candidate will provide clinical services for small animal patients in the Companion Animal Clinic and will participate in teaching of other required and elective small animal surgery courses within the DVM curriculum, including a laboratory in the second year of the D.V.M. curriculum in which students spay/neuter live animals from local shelters and rescue organizations. The amount of time dedicated to teaching, service, and research in this position is negotiable. The successful candidate will be joining a highly functioning, student-centered surgery department that includes five board-certified surgeons, three of which have a small animal emphasis.
The following qualifications are required:
V.M. or equivalent degree
Board certification by ACVS or ECVS
Evidence of excellent clinical and communication skills
A strong commitment to meeting the needs of students, and an understanding of student-centered learning
Collaborative mindset to foster a team-approach to teaching and service
A good attitude and an innovative, problem-solving mind
The following qualifications are desirable but not required
Experience with or willingness to learn minimally invasive surgical procedures
Graduate degree in a relevant field of study

The CVM is housed in Cactus Wren Hall and in the Animal Health Institute. Cactus Wren Hall is a new facility with ample state-of-the-art classrooms, teaching laboratories, research laboratories, conference rooms, and offices. The Animal Health Institute is comprised of the Companion Animal Clinic, the Equine and Bovine Center, and the Pathology Laboratory. The Companion Animal Clinic is a modern and innovative veterinary hospital for small animals. The 111,000 sq. ft. building contains state-of-the-art surgical, dental, and intensive care facilities. The hospital is equipped with digital radiography, fluoroscopy, C-arm, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, laparoscopy, and arthroscopy equipment. In addition to outstanding clinical facilities and equipment, the Companion Animal Clinic houses a pharmacy, a large state-of-the-art, well-equipped surgery teaching laboratory, simulated examination rooms for clinical communications training using standardized clients/patients, and ample conference and small-group meeting rooms. Adjacent to the Companion Animal Clinic is the Equine and Bovine Center, which houses large animal teaching and treatment facilities, and small herds of university-owned cattle and horses. The Pathology Laboratory offers a full range of anatomical pathology services, and also contains ample teaching spaces.
